Summer reading sign-up got off to a joyous start to the beat of djembe drums , historic storytellers and Capoiera dancers on June 19th. The Redford branch held its’ first Juneteenth commemoratory program. Summer reading program members enjoyed field trips to Belle Isle for Youth Day, The Detroit Zoo and walks in and around the library and the newly planted Green-Thumbs vegetable garden located in the back of the library. Gratitude goes to Mrs. Andrel Hughes Master Gardner and friend of the Redford Branch volunteer.
Relevant stories were read at each event. There were crafts, sewing classes, T shirt design, a splattering of pottery painting, face painting and a great adventure with the Master Story Teller. The Michigan Children’s Bell Choir preformed in concert followed by an old fashioned ice cream social which refreshed all participants. You scream, I scream we all scream for Ice cream. We entertained an assortment of strange creatures including a 150lbs. crocodile during visit from Stacks Exotic Zoo
Well this is not your grandmother’s library anymore but the staff at the Redford Branch hope that you will make it your library. Come back and see us now.
Enjoy the pictures in the gallery of the events mentioned. We want to thank all of our performers and supporters for helping us to provide an opportuntiy to Be Creative @ the Redford Branch Library!
