KUNSTHALLE DETROIT
Detroit's newest museum, the Kunsthalle Detroit Museum of Multimedia and Light-based arts announces its inaugural exhibition titled "TIME AND PLACE" opening June 10, 2011 and showing through September 10, 2011.
The exhibit features the work of twelve world-renowned artists from different countries who use film, video and multimedia as their primary medium. The exhibition addresses the ongoing dialogue between reality and illusion, formation and deconstruction and the concrete and the ephemeral. Circling around the idea of an ever-evolving city, the works coalesce in a pursuit to seize the psyche of a postmodern metropolis composed of re-assembled urban ruins and viewed as a ground for deconstructing city images. Many video artists present the city as a theatrical place, with an array of urban images that are re-mapped and re-presented within an illusory environment. By introducing virtual reality into the real world, "Time and Place" attempts to capture a state of total recourse, juxtaposing images that shift between real and mythical places, between the screen and the actual sophistication of the city.
The museum is located:
5001 Grand River Avenue, Detroit , MI. 48208
Hours: Thursday-Sunday 2pm-7pm Cost $5.00
