This is Robin Turner, Clerical Assistant and Chief Steward for the West Side CA's, Local 1231.
She has been at the Redford Branch for 3 years at the Redford Branch and 8 months at the Hubbard Branch as a temporary support clerical assistant.

Here are our interns for this year.  Introducing...
Mercedes who will be a senior this fall at Cody High School (Academy of Public Leadership).  Mercedes stated, "During my internship at the Redford Library, I've learned how to find books using the catalog on the computer.  I also learned how to use Microsoft Publisher to make certificates."

Devan  who will be a senior this fall at Robichaud /New Tech High School.  Devan stated, "I have been involved with evaluating possible library programs, telephone marketing, gardening, computer usage and reading."

We thank our interns for their hard work and diligence this summer.  And we are expecting great things from them in the future.





The Detroit Public Library now subscribes to OverDrive Digital Media, which provides access to eBooks and audiobooks on a wide variety of portable devices and e-readers.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.  Who can check out eBooks and audiobooks?
Users must have a valid DPL library card.  "Valid" means that the card is not expired, banned or subject to the $10 block. 
2.  How many titles may be checked out?
Two titles may be checked out at the same time.
3.  What is the loan period for an eBook or audiobook?
eBooks and audiobooks may be checked out for a loan period of 14 or 21 days.  eBooks and audiobooks may not be renewed.
4.  Can I download an eBook or audiobook from a Detroit Public Library computer?
eBooks and audiobooks can only be downloaded by remote users.  Downloads must be to the customer's own device.  However, DPL customers may use DPL's Wi-Fi hubs to connect their devices to the DPL's OverDrive eBook website.
5.  What types of devices are compatible with OverDrive?
Please visit OverDrive's Device Resource Center for a list of compatible devices.
6.  Does the Detroit Public Library lend eBook readers?
The Detroit Public Library does not lend eBook readers at this time.
7.  Do I need to set up a separate account with OverDrive?
No, customers can login to OverDrive using their DPL Library Card number and PIN on theMy OverDrive Account page.
Do you have a library card, but you don't have a pin number?  Stop in to any branch to set up a pin number so you can start downloading eBooks and audiobooks.

Teacher's Choice
Teach your students how to use the library for homework help by bringing them on a field trip. We offer several types of programs including, "Library Lessons and Stories", "Research Basics", and training on select Detroit Public Library databases.  For grades 1-8.

NORTHWEST DETROIT FARMERS’ MARKET HOSTS COOKING DEMONSTRATIONS AND FREE HEALTH SCREENINGS
The Northwest Detroit Farmers’ Market, a neighborhood open air market located in the south parking lot of Bushnell Church (15000 Southfield Service Drive at Grand River), is pleased to announce it will host once-a-month cooking demonstrations of healthy eating recipes and FREE health screenings, all sponsored by DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital.  “We are delighted to partner with DMC Sinai-Grace to provide these programs for our shoppers,” said Market Master Pam Weinstein.  “The cooking demonstrations will be provided by DMC Executive Chef Antonio Moore, who will use local produce and ingredients from the farmers and vendors at our market in the healthy cooking recipes he will be making for us.  And the free health screenings that staff from Sinai-Grace will provide include blood pressure checks, cholesterol checks and blood sugar testing – a great opportunity I’m sure many people will want to take advantage of!” she added.

The program schedules are listed below.  The Northwest Detroit Farmers’ Market operates one day a week - on Thursdays from 4-8 PM, now through Oct. 11, 2012.
